Renal tubular transport: accumulation of p-aminohippurate by rabbit kidney slices.
I NVESTIGATIONS on the biochemical mechanisms involved in active renal tubular transport are difficult to approach with the various experimental techniques now available. The study of isolated enzyme systems can at best present only a fragmentary picture of a complex physiological process. The clearance technique, while permitting precise measurement of certain tubular activities throws little ...

I969,-PAH transport was studied using isolated, perfused rabbit proximal renal tubules. ,4ctive PAH secretion was found in both the convoluted and the straight portion of the proximal tubule, but the rate of secretion was approximately...
متن کاملEffect of t-Butylhydroperoxide on p-Aminohippurat Uptake in Rabbit Renal Cortical Slices
OBJECTIVES Oxygen free radical (superoxide radical, hydrogen peroxide, and hydroxyl radicals) have been considered to be responsible for the pathogenesis of ischemia reperfusion injury and toxic chemical injury in a variety of organs including myocardium, brain, intestine and kidneys. In in vitro models using a suspension of rat proximal tubule segments, t-butylhydroperoxide(t-BHP), a potent ox...
متن کاملMolecular physiology of renal p-aminohippurate secretion.
Renal proximal tubules secrete various organic anions, including drugs and p-aminohippurate (PAH). Uptake of PAH from blood into tubule cells occurs by exchange with intracellular alpha-ketoglutarate and is mediated by the organic anion transporter 1. PAH exit into tubule lumen is species specific and may involve ATP-independent and -dependent transporters.
متن کاملEffect of steviol on para-aminohippurate transport by isolated perfused rabbit renal proximal tubule.
An inhibitory effect of steviol, metabolite of the natural sweetener stevioside, on transepithelial transport of p-aminohippurate (J(PAH)) was observed in isolated S(2) segments of rabbit renal proximal tubules using in vitro microperfusion. Addition of steviol (0.01--0.25 mM) to the bathing medium significantly depressed J(PAH) (approximately 50--90%). This inhibitory effect was dose-dependent...
